🙋🏻‍♀️ Let's start with 고기(meat) first.

고기 makes lots of compound words like below.

👉 돼지(Pig) + 고기 : 돼지고기 (Pork)

👉 소(Cow) + 고기 : 소고기 (Beef)

👉 닭(Chicken) + 고기 : 닭고기 (Chicken)

👉 오리(Duck) + 고기 : 오리고기 (Duck)

🙋🏻‍♀️ Then, how to say fish in Korean?  👉  물고기 or 생선 

Both means fish but they're used in different situations.

☑️ 물고기 : 물(Water) + 고기(Meat)

물고기 is not used as a type of food. It refers to "fish" as a type of animals.

🌿 For example,

👉 Denis씨는 집에서 물고기를 30마리 키워요. 

     Mr. Denis has 30 pet fish at home.

☑️ 생선 : 생(raw, uncooked) + 선(fish)  *It's a sino-korean word.

생선 means 'fresh fish' that is caught for food.

👉 저는 고기보다 생선을 더 좋아해요. I like fish more than meat.
