How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7
Start in Sierra Leone
Hello, everyone. How have you been? I heard that the weather has been quite cool lately, signaling the arrival of autumn. Please take care not to catch a cold. I recently embarked on a voyage from Takoradi to Sierra Leone, which will last for five days. It’s hard to believe that it has already been six months since I began my service on Logos Hope. Time truly flies. During this journey, I experienced many moments of God's work. Friends who are deeply passionate about God gathered on this ship, coming together to pray and praise Him while playing the guitar. It seems that God has opened doors for us to engage in our ministry. I believe this was a time for us, as missionaries from around the world, to reflect on our mission and draw closer to God. Here in Sierra Leone, I felt a profound excitement, as I sensed that God was revealing His history to me.
This time, I did a Korean fellowship on the ship, and it was a moment where everything was filled with gratitude. In particular, the family of the gentleman and the missionary was really like parents to me, even though my family is not long before I return to Korea after finishing my service. When I couldn't speak English and couldn't adjust to the ship, he came to me to help me adjust, and when I missed Korean food, he invited me to make food often. These were the moments when I learned a lot and was very gracious to the family. So when the family left this time, we worked together to make food among Koreans. The ingredients on the ship are close to European food, so it is difficult to make them very the same, but I think 90% of them made similar seaweed soup and stir-fried spicy pork. These were the moments when the family was touched by the feelings of Logos hope and God's work while eating. I think God learned that we should continue to spread the gospel as gratitude and missionaries so that we can meet the family.
Bread's Baking Class
These days, I think it was really a moment where I was experiencing and feeling God's work. In particular, the baking class focused on learning techniques at first, but as time passed, the number of participants increased, and the relationship between the participants grew longer, and the appearance of helping and encouraging each other began to appear. Some participants made touching confessions after the class, saying that they really felt love here. Also, at first, I taught them the basic skills of making bread, and many people found it difficult, but over time, I saw them enjoy the joy. Through this place, I became more aware of God's work. Every Tuesday at 12 p.m., I upload 10 first-come-first-served people. Then, the baking class sign-up will be closed in 5 minutes. It was really amazing that it was so popular on the ship. And on Wednesday at 6 p.m., the baking class starts, and only 10 people make bread. Only invited people can make bread here at the bakery. Now, there are 62 members of the baking class. I ask my neighbors to pray that through this, through bread, God will open the hearts of the people of this region and be an amazing time and opportunity for God to experience every time I pass through the country.
Bread's street Conduction
arrived from Sierra Leone and went to the street for the first time. Among the many ministries, this ministry didn't seem to be really easy. The first path to evangelism had more challenges and difficulties than expected. It wasn't easy to spread the gospel in a language barrier, culture and differences, and unfamiliar environments. In particular, in Sierra Leone, there were 60% of Muslim religions and only 10% of Christianity. This situation also seemed to be a big challenge for me. I went around the village to meet the current residents. At first, people didn't welcome me, and I was indifferent and alert. But I kept on delivering God's love and sharing the joy of the gospel to them, opening the window of conversation with people one by one. ? Meeting the two women I met for the first time, I shared my testimony, and before meeting God, I shared my life and shared my life. The moment they confessed that they wanted to believe in God, my heart felt like it was going to fly through the sky. Looking at the decision of faith reflected in their faces, I was confident that God had prepared for them.
This experience was a great challenge, but it gave me so much joy. Every word I said and the prayer I shared with them became the key to opening their hearts, and at that moment, I was overwhelmed by the thought that God's kingdom was on them. Through my first mission, I realized the meaning of the ministry God entrusted me to me and the sense of mission for it.
Mercyhip's meeting
This time, there was a ship right next to Mercyhiship and Logos hope at the port of Sierra Leone. Mercy ship is a medical ship registered in an NGO. This ship provides healing opportunities for people in areas with limited access to medical care. Mercy ship's main activity is providing medical care and health education, as well as free treatment. But this time, I was with Mercy ship next to Logos hope. Maybe because it was a medical ship, it was huge, clean and secured. So I met a Korean at Mercy ship. He was working as a nurse here, and it was an amazing moment. He was a Korean by himself and the other person is a foreigner, and he had a lot to learn from him to do his mission so boldly. So he invited me to Mercy ship, which was huge, and the facilities inside were all set up for the patient. There was a café and I met people, and everything seemed to be kind. I think it was a very happy moment because I experienced something I couldn't do. It was really Hallelujah to have God open all the paths of the mission.
Meeting with the Sierra Leone Missionary
This time, I met a Korean missionary who served here for 30 years in Sierra Leone. I think there were many moments that I had a lot of questions about while meeting. In particular, it was a difficult environment in Sierra Leone, and I think it was a great moment to serve. It was a very meaningful moment for me because the missionary clearly told me what mission you came from Sierra Leone, what the gospel is, and how to live as a missionary. As I met the missionary, I think it was a time to look back on myself as a missionary and check what kind of mission I received as a missionary and what kind of mission I served as a missionary by Logoshoff. Missionaries currently set up pastors in Sierra Leone and teach Bible study. However, there are many times when the Sierra Leone environment is not powered by electricity or fire. The missionary endured such pain and continued on. I want to be like the missionary since I decided to become a missionary. And the missionary invited me to the house for the Logos hope youth, and the house was huge, and I felt a lot of missing my grandmother's house. Also, he made Korean food, and I ate pork belly and soybean paste perilla leaves, and I think it was a taste that made me cry for Korea. The missionary also helped me get ramen in Sierra Leone. It's really not easy to get ramen in Sierra Leone, but I was grateful that the missionary saved me by running with my feet. I think I had a lot of experiences this time. I really give honor to God. Please pray for the missionary who is missionary in the distant Sierra Leone land.
Breed's special ministry
This time, I had a really special ministry in Sierra Leone. It was my ministry to go and build a church in Sierra Leone. With 16 friends, I wore my work clothes and went to a place like the countryside on a big bus. There was nothing in the neighborhood, only soil. But when I went there with my friends, everything was amazing. I think I was grateful that there were so many friends who wanted to meet God even on the cement floor. So, I shoveled with my friends and threw away all the soil, threw away all the stones, and made a clean church. The work was really not easy. These were the moments when I got closer while working together with my friends, talked about God in more depth, and talked a lot about the difficulties and how I came here because I wanted to become a missionary. Also, as we built a church like this, I was full of excitement. If I make a church like this, I will feel so good just thinking about how Sierra Leoneans who want to meet God gather and worship. These ministries were really moments where God experienced a lot of leadership
Goodbye Sierra Leone
Now that my ministry in Sierra Leone is over, Logos hope ministry in Africa is all over, and I'm starting another ministry in South America. I feel like I have gained a lot of other experience and God is opening a different path. I've been to so many Africa, but Sierra Leone seemed to have many meaningful moments. Especially, it was a time for me to learn from my people without getting annoyed or struggling even if their lives were hard. It was nice that God could call me to this land and be blessed by that person through me, and I was also really grateful to meet God by gathering with Sierra Leonean and worshiping them. I was touched by the meeting with Sierra Leonean and hearing what Jesus is, and I looked back at myself on how I am doing now as a Christian. I thought this was the gospel as I was studying the Bible with my friends at the port of Sierra Leone, sharing his stories and sharing other groups. It was time for us to leave, and those were the heart-beating moments when people from all over the world came out and blessed and cheered for us as we flew flags. I will still remember that and continue to pray. Thank you, Lord.
