Welcome to our ThanksLetter!

July has been a particularly meaningful month for ThanksCarbon, with our international activities and domestic government partnerships reaching new levels of concrete collaboration.

The highlight of July was the "Global Net Zero Connection" event in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on July 21-22. This significant bilateral gathering brought together Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, KOTRA, Korea Energy Agency, GGGI Cambodia, and various Cambodian government ministries. ThanksCarbon was invited to present as a carbon reduction specialist, sharing planned Cambodia projects during the "Korean Corporate Reduction Project Implementation Status" session. The presentation highlighted the global competitiveness of Korean technology, with Korean media covering the event as a major milestone in Korea-Cambodia climate cooperation and laying groundwork for future government partnerships.

The event also witnessed a historic moment: Korean company VeryWords received the first official ITMO (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes) authorization between Korea and Cambodia. This represents the first carbon credit trading authorization between the two countries under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, contributing to Korea's NDC(Nationally Determined Contribution) achievement. With official authorization issued by Cambodia's Ministry of Environment, this project represents the inaugural success of Korea's international reduction investment support program. Following this breakthrough, ThanksCarbon is working toward securing the next ITMO authorization in this Korea-Cambodia partnership.

Earlier in July, ThanksCarbon joined 65 other selected companies at the official launch ceremony on July 8th. The ceremony kicked off 35 projects spanning 15 countries—a major initiative led by Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy as part of the nation's carbon neutrality and climate response strategy. With support from both the Korean and Cambodian governments, this initiative led to a flurry of activity in July including executing cooperation agreements, stakeholder consultations, and business partnership discussions. Our Cambodia project is gaining strong momentum.

Here's what else happened during ThanksCarbon's dynamic July across both domestic and international fronts.

Bangladesh Farmers Report 14% Yield Increase

ThanksCarbon's Bangladesh activities continue to deliver concrete results. We recently shared compelling farmer interviews from our Mymensingh pilot project on YouTube, capturing firsthand experiences with AWD implementation.

Farmer Md. Rafiz Uddin reported impressive results: "After applying AWD, we harvested about 9 tons of paddy per hectare, while non-AWD areas yielded slightly less than 8 tons."

Abu Taher, a veteran farmer with 25 years of experience, noted significant improvements: "The farmers who used AWD this year have had much better rice yields. This time, none of the plots yield below 8 maunds (approximately 300kg) per katha (approximately 720 square feet). In many plots, it was even more than that. Compared to previous years, we got 2 maunds more."

Beyond yield increases, farmers experienced tangible benefits, including stronger rice roots, considerable water savings, and improved soil water retention.

150-Participant Government Seminar Validates AWD Success

These promising results led to a major seminar on July 27th in Dhaka, co-hosted by ThanksCarbon and BADC (Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation). The "Methane Emission Reduction by AWD in Rice Farming in Bangladesh" seminar drew representatives from Bangladesh's Ministry of Agriculture, BRRI (Bangladesh Rice Research Institute), and KOTRA. The participation of ADB (Asian Development Bank) and World Bank representatives underscored growing international financial institution interest in ThanksCarbon's approach.

With approximately 150 attendees, the seminar featured presentations of our Mymensingh PoC results and screened a documentary highlighting ThanksCarbon's technology through farmer field interviews. The real impact came from on-site farmers directly sharing that "This was the highest production in 5-6 years"—reinforcing that AWD success ultimately stems from creating mutual benefits with farming communities.

High-Precision Satellite MRV Technology Recognized

Meanwhile, significant progress unfolded domestically with Korea Rural Community Corporation awarding ThanksCarbon a research service contract for 'Applicability Review of Paddy Water Management Implementation Inspection Using Satellite Imagery Information'. This contract represents official government recognition of our MRV technology capabilities.

The project takes place in Hongseong county, Chungnam Province—Korea's first designated eco-friendly agriculture special zone with nearly 50 years of sustainable farming practices including duck farming methods in rice paddies. Across approximately 40 hectares and 144 fields, we're demonstrating our Haimdall system for paddy water management inspection.

Haimdall is a digital MRV (dMRV) technology that leverages satellite imagery and AI to accurately and transparently assess paddy water management practices, enabling the issuance of high-quality carbon credits. Our deep learning model achieves 99% accuracy in determining compliance through satellite and field imagery—embodying the 'transparency' and 'digital MRV' elements that global carbon markets demand, as we confirmed in Paris and Busan.

Throughout July, we conducted comprehensive field photography and satellite imaging (SAR C-Band, X-Band, and L-Band), complemented by four field visits for data collection and verification. Our proprietary classification system enables precise field monitoring and verification. This project serves as a crucial testing ground for applying global-standard MRV criteria to Korean agricultural conditions, and through this collaboration, we plan to develop a Korean-style paddy water management (AWD) dMRV system together with Korea Rural Community Corporation.
