We're beginning the year with news that reflects the journey we've been on. On December 11th, Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced investment support for our The Battambang Agricultural Modernization and Climate-Resilient Rice Initiative (BCRRI) project.

This decision follows a year of groundwork: pilot operations in Battambang, an international conference with GGGI and Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, cooperation agreements with local authorities, a feasibility study with KOTRA, and ultimately, the No Objection Letter from Cambodia's Ministry of Environment.

Each step required persistence and collaboration. This government support now positions the project to move forward with participation from leading Korean power generation companies and financial institutions. Purchase agreements are expected in the coming months. Our thanks go to the farmers committed to climate-responsive agriculture, government partners in both countries, and the organizations investing in this effort. [Read more on LinkedIn]

Real-time project monitoring through Haimdall's digital MRV platform in Takeo

Our Takeo project has been officially listed in the Gold Standard Impact Registry. Starting with 4,000 hectares, we plan to expand participation to 80,000 hectares as more farmers join in each growing season. As planting began last December with drying periods through this month, field progress is being tracked in real time through the Haimdall platform. We're pleased to share that most of ThanksCarbon's 2025 milestones have been achieved. [Read more on LinkedIn]

ITMO Pathway Opens: NOL approved for 61,000-hectare rice methane project, moving closer to bilateral ITMO recognition

ThanksCarbon recently received the No Objection Letter (NOL) from the Ministry of Environment for our rice methane reduction project spanning 61,000 hectares.

This milestone marks the culmination of months of dedicated effort. Last July, at the Global Net Zero Connection event celebrating the first ITMO authorization between partner countries, we committed to becoming the next bilateral success story. Since then, we've continued implementing AWD projects across multiple provinces. On October 1st, we formally presented our project at the Technical Working Group meeting chaired by the Vice Minister of Environment. And on December 2nd, we received the NOL.

This approval is significant on multiple fronts. It is only the second rice methane reduction project globally to receive recognition under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, and at 61,000 hectares, it represents one of the largest project areas worldwide. While we await the final Letter of Authorization (LOA), the NOL itself marks a major milestone.

Once the LOA is secured, this project will stand as a concrete example of bilateral cooperation and a practical demonstration of the implementation-focused climate action emphasized at COP30. It will contribute to achieving national NDCs through high-quality carbon credit generation, offer local farmers pathways to sustainable agricultural practices, and simultaneously support both governments' climate commitments.

Samsung C-Lab Demo Day

On November 20th, ThanksCarbon took the stage at the 2025 C-Lab Startup Demo Day held at Samsung Electronics' Seoul R&D Campus, sharing our AI satellite solutions for carbon credit verification.

Samsung's C-Lab program supports innovation from both internal employees and external startups, providing incubation and acceleration services from concept to commercialization. Through this program, ThanksCarbon received business model and financial consulting that meaningfully advanced our domestic and international expansion.

During Demo Day, we shared how Haimdall, our AI satellite analysis solution, has addressed core carbon market challenges across nine pilot projects in Vietnam, Bangladesh, and beyond. The presentation highlighted our ability to precisely estimate project coordinates and areas even in developing countries without digital address systems, while using large-scale data collection to optimize agricultural practices that minimize carbon emissions while maximizing crop yields.

Pakistan BurningSense Project

ThanksCarbon recently completed a baseline assessment for a biochar project across 120,000 hectares of wheat cultivation areas in Pakistan using our BurningSense technology. This project monitored agricultural residue burning patterns over the past three years, establishing foundational data for future biochar production and carbon reduction initiatives.

Agricultural residue burning remains common across Southeast and South Asia. After harvest, farmers often burn rice straw, wheat residue, and other crop remains in their fields. This releases substantial greenhouse gas emissions, often exceeding those from methane produced during rice cultivation. ThanksCarbon has received numerous inquiries about this issue in Vietnam and other partner countries, and we're developing various solutions. These include biochar production and low-methane feed options.

Every carbon reduction project begins with accurate baseline assessment. Understanding historical burning patterns is essential for measuring the impact of future mitigation activities. ThanksCarbon's digital MRV technology uses satellite data to accurately detect burning across large geographic areas. The Pakistan baseline study demonstrates this capability in practice, supporting partner organizations in developing high-integrity biochar projects.

Social Value Festa: The Future of Impact Investment

Last August, ThanksCarbon CEO Dr. Haewon Kim joined a panel discussion with LG Social Campus Chairman Jaehwan Park at the 2nd Korea Social Value Festa, hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The conversation explored how businesses and society can grow together through impact investment.

The discussion examined how environmental assets are becoming forms of capital. This includes carbon credits and biodiversity credits. Dr. Kim emphasized that evidence is growing globally that social and environmental businesses can deliver higher returns than traditional models. "Impact investment isn't just about doing good," he noted. "It's about creating meaningful change and influence across society."

Using LG Chem's Yeosu seagrass restoration project as an example, Dr. Kim explained how ThanksCarbon helps convert environmental outcomes into credits. These outcomes include GHG reduction and biodiversity recovery. This enables broader participation. The key message was clear. Organizations must move beyond reports and donations to generate measurable, quantifiable environmental results backed by scientific data.

Global Climate Context

The milestones ThanksCarbon achieved in recent months align with a broader shift taking place in global climate action. Last November's COP30 in Belém, Brazil, signaled this transition clearly.

Rather than announcing new targets, the conference focused on implementation. The goal was to transform commitments into measurable results. This shift from ambition to action defines what organizers called the "Implementation COP."

$1.3 trillion by 2035. That's the climate finance commitment developed countries made at COP30 to support developing nations, with adaptation finance tripling to at least $120 billion annually. Unlike mitigation finance, which reduces emissions, adaptation finance addresses immediate climate impacts through flood defenses, agricultural resilience, and drought preparedness. The conference also finalized operational guidelines for the Loss and Damage Fund and adopted 59 adaptation indicators to measure national progress on climate resilience.

Beyond finance, COP30 also established two implementation mechanisms: the Global Implementation Accelerator to support NDC execution and the Belém Mission to 1.5°C for accelerating emissions reductions. This implementation focus is reshaping carbon markets globally. At a recent seminar in Hanoi, Vietnam's Deputy Director of the Climate Change Department emphasized the shift toward high-integrity credits that meet rigorous scientific standards and ecological integrity. Vietnam plans to launch pilot carbon trading in 2028, with full operations by 2029, and ThanksCarbon continues to work closely with Vietnamese environmental authorities throughout this transition.

For ESG professionals and institutional stakeholders, COP30 delivers a clear message. The era of aspirational declarations has passed. What matters now is verifiable, measurable implementation. ThanksCarbon delivers exactly this through digital MRV technology and field-centered approaches, supporting transparent, credible carbon reduction projects across Asia.
