And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
Romans 8:28 (NLT)
1.The Beginning Point in Curaçao
Hello, this is Jeon Chang Yoon (Bread), serving as a missionary on board Logos Hope.
Time truly flies—it’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since I first came aboard this ship.
I still remember those early days vividly. Everything was unfamiliar, and I spent each day in a state of constant tension.
I felt like I had to perform well, as if there was no room for mistakes. I was always cautious and nervous, unsure of myself.
But now, this ship feels like home.
It has become a place of precious memories of tears and laughter shared with fellow crewmates,
and of witnessing God’s hand at work in the most personal and powerful ways.
This past year has been a time of tremendous growth and learning.
Especially in April, I had many moments where I deeply experienced God’s presence and faithfulness.
There were times in ministry when I was confronted with my own shortcomings,
yet those very moments drew me closer to God,
and reminded me again of how much I need Him.
As a missionary, I’ve had to reflect often on what it truly means to stand before God with honesty and humility.
These reflections haven’t always been easy, but they have been necessary and good.
Another thing I’ve experienced recently is the “changing of seasons” onboard.
Some of my longtime friends have left the ship, and new crew members have arrived.
These transitions have stirred up many emotions sadness, gratitude, and hope.
Though farewells are painful, I’ve come to see that each new meeting is also a gift of grace.
Through it all, in a world full of change, I continue to cling to the unchanging love and guidance of God.
Each day, I’m learning to cherish the time He gives me here to live it well, and live it fully.
Right now, I’m continuing ministry on the beautiful island of Curaçao.
With its clear blue skies, warm breezes, and colorful buildings, it’s a place that radiates peace on the outside.
But even in the midst of this beauty, there are hearts in need of the Gospel.
As I spend more time here, I’m slowly beginning to understand God’s heart for the people of this island.
And I pray that I can be used as a vessel to share His love faithfully, humbly, and with joy.
2.Bread’s Baking C-Day (Ministry Day)
This time, I had the opportunity to go out on my first “Baking Ministry” mission in Curaçao. I visited a local baking high school and had the privilege of teaching 17 students how to make bread.
When I first heard about this opportunity, my heart was filled with worry. I wasn’t fluent in English yet, and I was scared, wondering if I could really do this. However, God once again gave me a challenge, and through this challenge, I could clearly feel His guidance.
I went with a team of six people, and we taught the students how to make "Sausage Bread," a popular Korean bread. It wasn’t just about baking bread; it was an opportunity for me to share with the students why I am serving as a missionary with the name "Bread." I was able to tell them my story and the mission that God has given me in my life.
It was also a precious time to share about Logos Hope what kind of ship it is, why we sail across the world, and why the Gospel is so important in our lives.
As I conversed with the students, I could sense their deep longing for God in their lives. Through their eyes and reactions, I was reminded once again of how deeply God loves each and every person.
The moments of kneading, baking, and sharing bread with them weren’t just a cooking class. They were, in fact, a small worship service prepared by God. It was a time to experience how practical and warm the Gospel truly is.
On my way back after the mission, my heart was filled with gratitude and joy. Just like the name "Bread" that God has given me, I was reminded of my desire to live a life that shares His love, no matter where I go.
3. Bread's Baking Class
Through this recent baking class, so many people have joined us. As "Bread’s Baking Class" is becoming more known on Logos Hope, far more friends have joined than I initially expected, and I am filled with joy and gratitude as I prepare for each session.
Especially recently, the interest in the baking class has been truly overwhelming. Currently, a total of 110 crew members are participating in this class, and every Tuesday when the sign-up opens, the spots are filled within just 2 minutes. So many friends are eager to learn and participate, and seeing this, I am reminded of how wonderfully God is using this small ministry.
Every Wednesday evening at 6 PM, in front of a small oven, as we knead the dough, chat, and share laughter, these moments go far beyond just a simple class. Friends from different countries and languages sit around the same table, making bread together, sharing hearts, and naturally, we end up talking about God.
What I am most thankful for is that the friends trained in this class are now going out for external missions together. It’s such a precious thing to have companions in ministry, and I realize how valuable it is to no longer work alone. Through this process, I feel God’s work in every moment.
In my heart, I also have this hope: even if I eventually leave the ship, I pray that this baking class will continue. I hope this ministry becomes a door to the Gospel and a place of comfort for someone. Please pray with me.
I confess that none of this has been done by my strength. Truly, it is all God’s doing. I am thankful, and I continue to give thanks.
4. Good friday
This April was a busy and hectic season, but it was also a time more important than any other.
Especially as we prepared for and celebrated Easter, it became a profound moment to re-examine the foundation of my faith.
In preparation for Easter, Logos Hope took time to reflect on Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. We worshiped together and expressed His suffering through a drama performance. Throughout this process, I found myself once again facing God and asking, "How am I living right now?"
It wasn’t just an emotional moment, but one that came from the deepest part of my heart.
Sitting quietly in front of the cross, during a time of contemplation, the Lord’s voice spoke to me in the stillness, reminding me to stay focused on Him.
During the communion that followed, as we shared the unleavened bread and wine, I felt deeply moved by Jesus’ words, "This is my body, which is given for you. This is my blood, which is poured out for you."
As I broke the bread and drank the wine, I could feel the love of Jesus, who willingly allowed His body to be broken and His blood to be shed for my sins, so vividly.
In that moment, I could not help but confess, "Lord, You are the center of my life." I renewed my commitment to place Him at the center of my life once again.
Since that day, I have been trying not to let my busyness make me lose sight of the Lord. Though Easter has passed, the power of the resurrection is still alive and breathing within me.
By His grace, I walk today, once again, with my eyes fixed on the Lord.
5. Easter service
This Easter, I had the privilege of participating in a truly special and unforgettable worship service on Logos Hope.
On Easter Sunday morning, we climbed to the highest point of the ship. The place closest to the sky, atop this ship floating on the sea, we watched the sun slowly rise after the lingering darkness of dawn. Quietly, yet with a heart full of conviction, we praised the resurrection of the Lord.
At that moment, an indescribable, deep emotion overwhelmed my heart. Just as the bright sunlight pushes away the darkness, I experienced deeply within my soul that Jesus had triumphed over the power of death and was alive again.
More than just witnessing the sunrise, that moment felt like meeting the living Lord in a "holy place." As the praises flowed, I instinctively raised my hands and sang. "Praise be to the Lord who is risen! I will follow the One who overcame death and gave us eternal life."
That morning, with all my heart, I was able to confess to the Lord: "Lord, I will never turn back again. Because You are alive, I can live today. I want every step of my life to follow Your footsteps."
In that moment, as the praises and confessions echoed, everything felt so incredibly grateful. Just knowing that the Lord is alive made me realize deeply how precious and blessed this place, this ministry, and this life are. I etched it into my heart.
6.Easter brunch
After the Easter service, my department decided to prepare an Easter brunch for the crew to share in the joy of the resurrection even more. Since it was a time to commemorate the resurrection of our Lord, I wanted to serve food with as much care and joy as the celebration itself.
I decided to make special breads and various dishes, but to be honest... it was not as easy as I had expected.
I had to prepare much larger quantities than usual, the time was tight, and my body was getting tired… Honestly, there were moments when I thought, "Can I really finish all of this?" In the busy kitchen, if I were alone, there was no way I could have finished all the work.
But surprisingly and thankfully, friends came one by one and said, "I’ll help!" They could have easily been busy with their own tasks, but they willingly stepped in to knead dough, prepare ingredients, and keep an eye on the oven, sharing the workload with me. Every one of those warm gestures felt like the love of the Lord to me.
If they hadn’t been there, none of this would have been possible. I was reminded once again of how great the grace of "togetherness" is, and how precious the love of community truly is.
In the end, we carefully prepared various types of bread and food, and all the crew on board was able to laugh, share, and fully enjoy the joy of the resurrection. Seeing their bright smiles, all the difficult moments turned into gratitude.
It was such a great grace to be able to serve in this small way, celebrating the resurrection of our Lord, and most of all, it was the community, who joined me in this act of service, that made this Easter so incredibly warm.
Friends from the same department.
7. Bread’s department
Not long ago, I had a chance to take a photo with my department friends on the ship.
It wasn’t just about capturing a picture it was a deeply moving moment that reminded me how precious this time together truly is.
Serving in the same department, with the same heart for God’s kingdom, we’ve laughed together, felt exhausted together, and helped each other through every moment.
And somehow, all those shared experiences seemed to be captured in that one photo.
Working with such dear co-workers here on board and being able to serve the Lord together is a tremendous and humbling blessing that I’m deeply grateful for.
Our department is mainly responsible for preparing food.
Each day, we do our best to serve meals with care and love.
And when we see the crew enjoy the food with joy on their faces, we’re reminded:
“What we do isn’t just cooking it’s sharing the love of God.”
Even in a small kitchen, God is doing great things.
However, many of these precious friends will be leaving in June to move on to their next journey.
Just thinking about it already brings a sense of sorrow and emptiness.
Because our time together has been so meaningful, the thought of saying goodbye feels especially painful.
Yet, at the same time, I’ve come to see that the friendships we’ve built here aren’t just workplace connections.
They’re more like the deep bond formed between comrades in the military friends who have sweat, laughed, and even cried together.
As we prepare to part ways, we do so by praying for one another, blessing one another, and holding on to the hope of meeting again someday.
This time we've spent walking together in the Lord, this journey we’ve shared in Him
I believe it will remain in my heart forever.
8. NEXT STEP
After wrapping up our ministry in Curaçao, I will be staying here for another month to take part in a significant phase called Dry Dock.
Dry Dock is a crucial time when the ship is brought out of the water so the hull can be inspected, repaired, and maintained.
This process is essential to ensure that Logos Hope can sail safely and effectively for the next year of ministry.
During this period, the ship remains stationary and doesn’t sail.
Instead, a variety of important tasks take place, including hull painting, engine maintenance, and repair work across various systems.
Specially invited engineers will join us on board, and as crew members, we’ll each serve from our positions to support this important season.
During Dry Dock, only essential crew members involved in key ministries and technical operations will stay on board.
Others will form “Challenge Teams” and go out for about three weeks to engage in various ministry opportunities in local communities.
Whether staying on board or going out, we are all stepping into different roles yet united in the same mission of building God’s kingdom.
Once Dry Dock is complete, we plan to sail to our next destination: St. Vincent.
There, we will enter a special season called Shabbath Week a time set aside for rest and renewal for the crew.
We’re looking forward to taking a break from the busyness, allowing our tired bodies and hearts to find rest in the Lord, and to be refreshed for the new season of ministry ahead.
In all these plans and transitions, I would be so grateful for your prayers
for safety during Dry Dock,
for grace and strength in every role,
and for all of us to continue serving with the heart of Jesus wherever we are.
Prayer Points
- Please pray that all maintenance and repair work currently taking place during Dry Dock in Curaçao will be carried out safely and smoothly
