But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot. (jeremiah 20:9)
Starting point in Barbados
Hello everyone, how are you all doing? It's already December, the last month of 2024. Time seems to be passing by so quickly. Back in May, I left Korea with the mission of becoming a missionary and joined Logos Hope to serve, and now here we are, at the end of the year. It feels like time has flown by. I have had the opportunity to travel to many countries, and through this journey, I have gained a deeper understanding of what it means to be used by God.
Currently, I am in Barbados. God has called me here, and I am starting a new chapter of my journey. From the moment I set foot here, I have felt God's presence with me, guiding everything in a good direction. Barbados is a place filled with beautiful nature and warm-hearted people. The white sandy beaches, clear waters, and the lush greenery of the tropics all speak of the greatness of our Creator, and it’s impossible not to praise Him. However, the spiritual reality here presents a different challenge. Beneath the outward tranquility, there is a deep thirst for the soul, and many are waiting for the seeds of the gospel to take root more deeply.
The ministry here is taking place in various forms. I am sharing the Word through collaboration with local churches, building relationships with the locals, and spreading the message of the gospel. Through all these activities, I pray that God's love will be shared and that His kingdom will expand as I continue each day.
Baking class at bread
During a busy day in Barbados, I led a baking class that was about more than just making bread—it was a time to share life, build spiritual fellowship, and connect deeply with friends from various nations. As we baked together, we shared our struggles, prayer requests, and built stronger bonds with one another. Through the conversations, we encouraged one another, and I witnessed God’s love being imprinted on people’s hearts.
This class has become a crucial time for the crew members of Logos Hope, who dedicate themselves to ministry. It provided a space for those feeling weary to find rest, be recharged, and reflect on how God is leading them despite the challenges they face in their individual ministries. We shared stories of hardships and victories, discovering together how God is at work in our lives. It was a reminder of how we are all part of His greater mission.
Additionally, the conversations we had while baking naturally opened opportunities to share the gospel. Many were touched by the stories of God’s work in our lives, and we rejoiced in seeing His kingdom being established here on earth.
Please join me in praying for an opportunity to take this ministry further. I dream of leading a baking team to engage with people outside the ship, inviting them to bake with us while sharing the gospel. May God use this as a way to reach those who have not yet met Jesus.
The painting ministry of Bread
During our ministry in Barbados, we were blessed to take part in a special project that has become one of my most memorable experiences. Local churches were struggling with old and deteriorating buildings, so we came together to help by repainting both the exterior and interior walls of one of these churches.
When we started, the walls were peeling due to old paint, and there were stains caused by moisture. Our team worked hard, cleaning the walls thoroughly and preparing the surface before applying fresh coats of paint. It was a labor of love as we sought to give the church a new look.
As we worked, we had meaningful conversations with local church members, listening to their testimonies and praying together. One moment that stood out to me was when children came by to watch us paint and encouraged us by saying how much they appreciated our hard work.
This project was not just about painting walls; it was about witnessing the transformation of the church as a reflection of God's glory. Through this experience, I was reminded of the importance of building God’s kingdom—not only spiritually but also through practical acts of service. As the church walls were renewed, we could feel God’s presence and work in that place.
Please join us in praying that this church will continue to be a place where people can gather to worship and experience God’s love.
On the way back to the ship after finishing the ministry.
a farewell party for a German friend
A German friend who has been serving in the kitchen on the Logos Hope for the past year is now returning home after completing their ministry. Over the past year, this friend worked as a team leader in the kitchen, preparing delicious meals and bringing comfort and joy to many people aboard Logos Hope through their laughter and kindness.
To honor their dedication and hard work, the team held a small farewell party, filled with blessings and gratitude. During the party, we shared stories from their time of service and prayed for them, asking for God's blessings. We prayed that God would continue to use them in the future and that their life at home would be filled with His love and peace.
Although it was sad to say goodbye, it was a time of great grace as we reflected on the precious time we had served together as coworkers in God's ministry. We blessed them and sent them off with heartfelt prayers.
a view of Barbados
Recently, I had a special time with my friends when we made time to visit the beach. When we first arrived, the view before us was breathtaking—the emerald-colored sea, resembling the sky, was absolutely beautiful. The calm waves sparkling in the sunlight and the surrounding scenery filled my heart with gratitude to God.
We excitedly jumped into the sea, playing joyfully like children. Looking into the clear water, I saw small tropical fish swimming, and it felt like I had stepped into one of God's masterpieces. Some friends spontaneously started a floating competition on the water, and the hilarious attempts to make each other laugh caused bursts of laughter.
The water was so clear that one friend even tried snorkeling, saying we could really greet the fish here, which made us laugh even more. After our fun in the water, we sat on the beach, enjoyed cold cola, and soaked in the beautiful coastal view.
Throughout these moments, it felt like a special gift, a time of rest within God’s creation. Refreshed by the fun in the water, I was able to return to the various ministry with renewed energy and focus.
cultural events in various countries
Recently, an event was held on Logos Hope where the crew members introduced their respective countries and shared their cultures. It was a time of learning, understanding, and encouraging one another by showcasing the traditions and uniqueness of each country.
One of the highlights was the Korean fan dance performance, which was a truly meaningful experience. As the dancers unfolded and folded their fans, displaying various movements, many were amazed by the traditional beauty and elegance of Korea.
Friends from other countries also dressed in their traditional costumes and expressed their cultures through dance, song, and other performances. Particularly memorable were the samba performance from Brazil, the traditional dance from Germany, and the drum performance from Africa. These performances allowed us to feel their culture and passion.
Though we come from different backgrounds and cultures, this event reminded us of God's diverse creation and the unity within our community. Blessing and celebrating each other's differences made this event a special and enriching time, adding depth and significance to our ministry.
