Our MTE family had such a full and meaningful summer!
Looking back, we laughed, played, ate, traveled, and got to know one another betterโcreating so many wonderful memories together.
Here are some of the stories that made Summer 2026 at MTE so special. ๐
1. Discovering Korea in Canada - Korean Memorial Day Event & Langley K-Food Festival
On June 27, we attended a Korean Memorial Day event and the Langley K-Food Festival together.
For our children, it was a wonderful opportunity to experience Korean culture, music, and foodโand to naturally feel a sense of pride in their heritage.
For our Korean-Canadian children, experiences like these are more than just cultural events. They are opportunities to discover their roots, connect with their culture, and explore who they are.
2. A Special Summer at Alice Lake
From July 23โ25, we finally had our long-awaited MTE Summer Camping Trip!
We ate together, played together, talked, and spent time in nature. As the days went by, both the children and adults grew closer.
One memorable event happened when a child accidentally lost an Apple Watch in Alice Lake. All the MTE kids became a team, searching together and helping late into the evening.
Watching them work together made me think:
โWhen you are surrounded by good people, even an unexpected problem can become a beautiful memory.โ
We were also especially thankful to have a high school volunteer join us throughout the entire camping trip and capture many precious moments on video.
Thanks to him, we can now look back on moments we may not have noticed at the timeโand keep our summer memories as a lasting record. ๐
3. Becoming One Through Serving Together
On August 15, we spent a special day in White Rock with the Jesus Is Enough Family community.
JEF has faithfully prayed for and supported MTE from Korea, so it was especially meaningful to finally meet in person, share a meal, and spend time together.
Our MTE families also had the opportunity to serve the JEF community by preparing and hosting a BBQ.
One comment from a JEF team leader especially touched us:
โThe MTE families seem much more settled than before, and you can really see how united they have become.โ
When MTE first began, many of us were a little awkward and unfamiliar with one another. But through the time we have shared, we have slowly learned to understand, support, and appreciate each other.
We realized once again that time spent together really does build a community.
We are slowly becoming one family. ๐ฑ
4. Letting the Love We Have Received Flow to Others
August 22 was another special day of service for MTE.
With the support of the BC Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Grant we received in May, we had the opportunity to prepare and serve a heartfelt meal to two groups: Withus, a community of parents raising young children with special needs, and the Bedesta Mothersโ Group, which has a long history of supporting families of children with special needs in Vancouver.
Because we understand one anotherโs hearts perhaps better than anyone else, it was a joyful reunion. Yet, as we listened to one anotherโs stories, there were also moments when we could not hide our sadness. As parents walking the same path, we were able to share a unique sense of comfort, understanding, and empathy.
Although MTE is still a small organization less than two years old, we are deeply grateful and joyful that we have grown from being supported by others to being able to serve others.
We pray that the love we have received will continue to flow outward, bringing warm comfort and generous support to many more families through MTE.
5. MTE Mission Trip
From August 25โ27, we went on our MTE Mission Trip.
This was much more than simply going on a trip.
We had opportunities to ask questions and get to know one another, laugh together through charades and movement games, share our thoughts through debates, practice moments of quiet reflection, and create art using things we found in nature.
Through all these activities, we discovered new sides of our children.
We saw thoughts and talents that are not always easy to notice, children caring for younger ones, and the courage to try something new.
Sometimes we found ourselves saying,
โI didnโt know my child could do that!โ
It was a beautiful opportunity to discover one another in a new way.
Most of all, the greatest gift was simply having the time to know one another better and grow closer as children, parents, and friends. ๐

๐ A Motherโs Reflection, Jennifer Cho โ Nathanโs Mom
Honestly, I joined the MTE retreat because my son wanted to volunteer, not because I had planned to go.
He is usually quiet and does not naturally seek out a lot of social interaction, so I wondered whether he would be able to participate well.
Thanks to Anneโs invitation, I decided to join him.
After spending even one night together, I saw something beautiful:
When our weaknesses come together, they can create something incredibly beautiful.
I have always known that our children are gifts simply because of who they are. But I also know how challenging it can be to raise them.
This experience helped me understand even more deeply the importance of inclusion and belonging.
It was beautiful to see children experience the feeling:
โI am welcomed here. I am valued here. I belong here.โ
I hope this kind of community will not exist only within MTE, but will also become part of our schools and communities everywhere.
๐ Nathan's story
โThrough this retreat, I felt that I was getting to know people better and becoming part of the community.
While teaching the younger kids some basketball skills, I learned how important it is to understand that everyone is different and communicate with them according to who they are.
One of the most memorable experiences was spending five minutes in complete silence.
It wasn't easy, but it gave me a chance to stop, quiet my mind, and listen.
This retreat was more than volunteering. It helped me grow in communication, become stronger on the inside, and take time to reflect on what really matters to me.โ

โDuring the MTE summer retreat, I learned that I don't have to solve everything by myself.
Sometimes asking someone else for help can make things much easier and faster.
For example, when preparing a boat, it is much easier to ask a friend for help instead of trying to do everything alone.
I learned the importance of working together and helping one another.โ

โThere were so many fun moments during the retreat, but the most memorable part for me was swimming and paddle boating with my friend Juro at Hayward Lake.
The BBQ we had near the beach was also really special. After swimming so much, the food tasted even better!
Most of all, I hope I can keep spending time with the friends I met and see them again.โ

โMy favorite day of the MTE Mission Trip was the second day.
We visited Westminster Abbey and spent time in nature. One of the most memorable moments was our five minutes of silence and reflection.
For those five minutes, we simply stopped, quieted our minds, and listened.
It reminded me that sometimes in life, we need to step away from all the noise and distractions and slow down, enjoy the moment, and focus on what is truly important.
Afterward, we took a short walk and ended up at a beautiful viewpoint.
It was a special day filled with quiet reflection, beautiful nature, and wonderful memories.โ
๐ฑ Daniel Perry's story
โOne thing I learned from the 2026 MTE retreat is that helping younger kids can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding.
Holding their hands while walking up the mountain, teaching them how to do something, or watching out for them while they swim may seem like small things, but they can make a big difference.
Sometimes taking care of younger kids can feel inconvenient, especially when you would rather be doing something else.
But afterward, I felt proud knowing that I had helped someone and made them feel safe and cared for.
I learned that looking after younger children is important because our small acts of help can give them confidence, safety, and a sense that someone is there for them.โ
5. More Than Enough KIDS
And now, we have another exciting announcement!
MTE KIDS is officially starting! ๐
Beginning September 19, MTE KIDS will meet every other week.
The children will have opportunities to learn through a Christian worldview, while growing in both their hearts and minds and putting what they learn into practice through hands-on experiences.
Even before we officially started, we were blessed by volunteers who said,
โWe want to be part of this. We want to be with the children.โ
A small community that began with one person's heart is now touching the hearts of others.
And as more people join together, a new kind of village is beginning to grow.
Maybe this is one of the most beautiful things about MTE.
6. And Our Story Continues...
This summer, we laughed a lot.
We traveled a lot. We ate a lot. ๐
And most of all, we made a lot of memories.
Through all those moments, we have grown closer, understood one another a little better, and become a little more like family.
